It”s back to school season and there a lot of schedule changes, shifts in priorities, and additional jobs to be done. There is probably a lot more on your plate now and things are getting pretty hectic. Which is why this is actually the BEST time to get an action plan like this that is incredibly simple yet effective. This trick is freakin awesome, but it’s not really a trick ;. It is based off of having a really solid understanding about habits and why we do what we do!
Intrinsic Vs. Extrinsic motivation
When it comes to exercise, those who are intrinsically motivated have a true acceptance of the permanence of exercise as a part of their lifestyle! That is a fancy way of saying that you must learn to like exercise if you are going to stick with it! Why oh why would anyone want to continue doing something they hate? It just doesn’t make sense.
The fact is that all people who workout consistently over years and decades have an internal disposition of control. This simply means that they believe that their life is in their control when it comes to relationships, job status, making it to the gym, and eating choices. They know beyond a shadow of a doubt that all of these areas are the exact result of their choices.
Furthermore, studies have shown that those with high self-efficacy or those that believe that they are competent and effective at whatever they decide to tend to actually be more effective and competent.
Those who are extrinsically motivated almost always have an external disposition of control. This simply means that they believe that situations outside of their control determine their decision making, not their own decision. I know that may sound like an oversimplification but it is so true. These extrinsically motivated individuals tend to be less healthy, reactive instead of proactive, and carry more of a victim mentality that can even be subtle at times.
I know this from helping so many people change their habits. The same rhetoric comes out with a certain “I’m too” or “it’s too”. Any statement that starts out like this is immediately making the situation or opposition more powerful than your own will. I’m not saying that you can “will” everything in your favor, but there is never a reason to say “my schedule is just too crazy” and give your power away.
I want to give you the “trick” now on how you can become a little more intrinsically oriented.
These are 5 simple affirmations you can use to feel a little more in control each day
Just like a workout, choose your favorite 3 affirmations and repeat them 10xday for 30 days. Just watch what happens!
- I am happy and grateful that I am in control of my daily choices.
- I’m glad to know that my life is ALWAYS the result of my habits
- All of my actions are in perfect harmony with my purpose.
- Every day I am becoming more effective at everything I do.
- I am committed to sticking to all of my plans.
Let me know how this goes,
