WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Chiropractic is a conservative, natural method of health care that addresses the SOURCES of physical problems, rather than just the SYMPTOMS.

“Treating the Source, not the Symptom”

Chiropractic is based on the simple premise that if your body’s “STRUCTURE” is altered; your body’s “FUNCTION” is compromised!

Whether you have misaligned vertebrae, pinched nerves, tight or achy muscles “YOUR” structure is altered. We restore normal biomechanical structure to your body so it can function OPTIMALLY.

WE TREAT THE FOLLOWING

Headaches

Structural Imbalances

TMJ Syndrome

Neck Pain

Back Pain

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Sprains/Strains

Shoulder, Knee & Hip Pain

Obesity

Toxicity (Body & Home)

Sciatica

Personal Injury

Role of Foot Balance with overall Structural Health

The foot plays a major role in the balance and well being of the human structure. Looking at the human being from an architectural perspective immediately forces appropriate attention to the arches and angles of the feet. The feet play the role of true “foundation” for the human structure, and if ignored, prevent that structure from ever reaching maximum well being and balance.

As seen on the right, pronation of the foot encourages many imbalances above, beginning with the left knee. This clearly shows the importance of addressing the feet in one’s quest to maximize the potential of someone’s life. And, this is done primarily with custom fitting Orthotics.

Custom Fitting Orthotics

There are different schools of thought regarding the use and application of custom orthotics. In our health care industry, these are primarily recommended by podiatrists, orthopedists and chiropractors. The chiropractor, who deals with full body biomechanics, will correlate the custom orthotics with biomechanical imbalances to address the needs of the full kinetic chain.

Although many patients come in already having rigid orthotics, there are multiple clinical reasons the second option (weight-bearing impression with flexible orthotics) is preferred. “Just as we take x-rays in the weight-bearing position, we also measure the needs of the foot in the weight-bearing position. This allows us to see to what extent the arches of the feet are performing."

"Secondly, a rigid orthotic tends to lock the foot into an immobile state, making all of the muscles and joints above the ankle work harder. If the foot were to be put on a shelf in a museum, this would probably be an effective orthotic. But, we need the foot to have the freedom of going through it’s full range of motion without being inhibited, and the flexible orthotic is far more appropriate with that goal in mind. In addition, the rigid orthotic provides no shock absorption, while the flexible orthotic provides significant shock absorption. For these reasons, the flexible orthotic measured in the weight-bearing position is preferred."

The digital scanning procedure is both quick and efficient, but the best amenity of this technology is that you can quickly scan anyone and get a postural (im)balance reading, suggesting whether or not the weight distribution is balanced right vs. left and front vs. back.

This picture is a colorized scan that shows weight/pressure difference, again suggesting an imbalance in the weight distribution. It is impossible to ever give specific recommendations from this scan; it only suggests that a more in-depth examination should be done, as this imbalance could be caused by any number of structural dysfunctions. This difference in color strongly suggests the very imbalances that pre-dispose people to increased vulnerability to injury as well as premature degeneration.

What is BIA?
(And why do you need one?)

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis or Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA) is a method of assessing your “body composition”- the measurement of body fat in relation to lean body mass. It is an integral part of a health and nutrition assessment.

WHY IS BODY COMPOSITION IMPORTANT TO MY HEALTH?

Research has shown that body composition is directly related to health. A normal balance of body fat is associated with good health and longevity. Excess fat in relation to lean body mass, a condition known as altered body composition, can greatly increase your risks to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and more. BIA fosters early detection of an improper balance in your body composition, which allows for earlier intervention and prevention. BIA also provides a measurement of fluid and body mass that can be a critical assessment tool for your current state of health.

BIA also serves to measure your progress as you work to improve your health. Improving your BIA measurement, or maintaining a healthy BIA measurement, can help keep your body functioning properly for healthy aging and reduced risk to illness. With your BIA results, we can recommend a personalized dietary plan, nutritional supplements, and exercise to help you support optimal health and well-being for a lifetime.

HOW DOES A BIA WORK?

BIA is much more sophisticated than your bathroom scale, but just as painless-and almost as quick. BIA is a simple procedure that can be performed right in our office in a matter of minutes with the help of a sophisticated, computerized analysis.

This analyzer “calculates” your tissue and fluid compartments- using an imperceptible electrical current passed through pads placed on one hand and foot as you lie comfortably clothed on an exam table. In just minutes, we’ll have accurate measurements to help create an effective, personalized program to improve your health status.
